Question about lifting an 06 truck
#1
So my cousin just bought an 06 1500 hd silverado truck with a vortec 6000.
He wanted to get it lifted and the dealership told him on all 06 and new trucks that lifting or lowering the truck will void is warranty unless installed at a GM certified "customizer". The closeset "certified" customizer is over 3 hours away and is 4k just for installation he was told.
I do not understand this. I just drove by the chevrolet dealership and there are lowered and lifted trucks for sale there with warranty...why is 06 different? I told him someone at the dealership is just taking him for a ride.
What do you guys think?

The customized trucks you see on the lot are usually done by a shop in the area that the dealer paid to have the work done. Then the dealer turns around and marks up the price to try and make a bigger profit. Since the dealer is selling an already modified truck, they can say that all the work is approved and doesn't void the warranty. What's B.S. is that you can take your truck to the same shop, have the same work done, and the dealer will try to void your warranty. The dealer has to prove that whatever mod you did caused whatever you may need warrantied. There is a dealer here that was charging $8500 for a lift w/ wheels & tires on the Ford SuperDuty, while the same shop was charging walk-ins $4500 for the same work. The dealer was so bold as to tell the shop to raise their price to match the dealers. Some dealers won't try to void due to parts, but who installed them. I can't stand double-talking dealers, so I say F'um and do want you want. Just make sure all the work is done right. Sorry for rambling

Well if it is lifted they will not warranty the suspension parts. but everything else will be warrantied. If one dealer dont want to work on it then just find another dealer. Usually the small town dealers will work on just about anything and claim it on warranty

in a nutshell, any part that you modify from the factory GM is not going to cover under warranty. plain and simple. uncle is a fleet manager for GM, got my 06 ecsb from him. He pretty much flat out told me that if I were to drop my truck or do anything custom to it to just wait until after my warranty expires because they wont cover it. Things that they don't really care about is exhaust and cold air intakes and such.
