i just got my z71 last weekend and although i dont want to tear it up i do want to occasionally go a little off road. what is too much for these trucks? any tips or advice? what are common problems with the gm electronic 4x4 stuff, my friend has the push lever in his.

If its a z71 im gessing its a 1500. All of your axle stuff front and rear have a limit of about a 35" tire befor you will start having to up grade parts. Iv never had a problem with the electronic 4wd yet my self. You will find out sooner or later that the g80 in your rear end is a pos. If it dosnt blow up it will just wear out and stop locking the rears together.

As long as its not a 2WD you should be ok. There's nothing like a weekend warrior trying to prove hisself with his 2wd truck/suv and gets so stuck in the ****, that his Ford Ranger (although lifted with 33's) get destroyed with mud all over the inside of the engine and cab.

I disagree with you, though 4X4 are better for offroad, there are some 2 wheel drives that can go through so much youd swear it was 4 wheel drive. Alot of stuff depends on the driver

cowboy dont even argue with him its not even worth it, 1/2 of his posts are jsut saying how 2wds shouldnt be lifted... meanwhile if he had read the thread he would have noticed that 98hardtopz said he has a Z71 which is 4wd so he shouldnt have even said as longs as its not 2wd you should be ok anyways

on a side note:
to what extent do you plan to wheel, just occasionaly on the weekends?
do you plan to lift and run bigger tires also?
for the most part these trucks are pretty durable stock but like everything else, $hit breaks. youll find most commonly its front suspension stuff to being as its the ifs

some will say go wit suspension which ultimately is the way to go... but if you cant afford it body is just as good i think, ive had both adn wouldnt choose one over the other unless i hit the lottery lol... my blue truck in my sig is 3" body and 1.5" suspension and im runnin 285/75/16s (33s) and its plenty enough for what i use it for (not to much wheelin but i aint afraid to hit the mud)
