Whats the height difference? I may have to use spacers.. or drop the back to level the front, and use the next biggest / widest tire. Im mostly looking for a real wide tire. Any input?

Not really enough 2wd's around here to give you good information on the height difference. Almost everything we touch is 4x4. You could crank the front torsion bar to raise the front an inch, and then you should be able to clear 285/70R17. That would be wider and taller than stock.

this style front end can tuck larger tires due to the larger fender wells. My 2000 model had 33s with torsion bars turned all the way up when I got it. They rubbed all over the place. I dont think the tahoes sit as high as a single cab 4x4 either. That truck makes me wish I haddent lifted my mine

The fender wells should be the same size from 99-07classic. Its all about the wheel backspacing.

From what I've seen 2wd tahoes sit at the same height as 4x4 but the 2wds have slightly smaller body bushings iirc. There is no difference suspension wise. Put some ford keys in there and you could stuff 315s if you wanted to.

I dont see how they could be wider. I used to have an 01 and i took fender flares off an 04 chevy and they matched up perfect. The flares on the 04 that are in the picture came off a 99-02.

I put the wheels and tires on my gf's obs tahoe, which has even narrower fender openings and it doesnt rub either.

your right I had to go out side and check. It is all in the offset I guess. My cousin had a 04 cc and he had a 3in body lift and torsen bar keys and he tucked 37x 12.50 on his truck with stock wheels. my truck had a 6in suspension and 3in body and the same tires would barely fit under my truck with my wheels. so I have always thought the fender wells were larger on those trucks

It's amazing what stock wheels can stuff. Personally i think those Welds have perfect specs. 8.5" wide so the tire keeps its wide look, 5.25" backspacing so they're tucked in but still stick out a tiny bit. I'll post a pic of some stocker 17s with 285/70/17s in a sec when i find it.

Okay here it is 285/70/17 on stock avalanche wheels. I dont think i even had to crank my torsion bars to fit them. No drop shackle in these pics either.
