Default chevy 1500 body lift question

I orderd a body lift from summit complete with gap gaurds. on the instruction book that came with it said i would have to cut a tranny linkage and weld in a extender bar. I was just checking if this sounded right. its ext cab automatic 4.8l 4wd

its for a manual transfer case, you have to extend the linkage but ive actually done one where all i did was loosen the nut on the linkage and didnt have to cut and weld in the extension.
