DFW Inspection
#1
Hey guys. Just moved to the DFW area and I have a few questions about the inspection testing and what all they actually look for. I searched but didnt really find direct answers to my questions.
First, are cats a must? Do they just do visual inspections or do they actually probe the exhaust?
Second, are there any limitations to internal engine modifications such as a limit on the size of cam, etc. that would make the truck unable to pass inspection?
Third, are there any special things that need to be done in order to get a turbo setup to pass inspection?
Thanks for the help guys. Oh and this is in a 2002 rcsb.

As long as the tune is correct and MIL light isn't on (I.E. Rear o2's are turned off, random misfires if it's cammed etc.) It'll pass just fine! Most every place I've been to in the Fort Worth area have never visually inspected for cats. They just plug up to the OBD and go. Hope this helps.

Yep, i go to the same place have been for years... Last time the truck would barely idle, and it kept dying while the guy was moving it around, tune was WAY OFF!! Then they left it running in the bay, cammin like a ****, truck was just rockin back and forth (old cam and motor).... So a whole herd of the dumbasses look under the hood and notice the headers, then the gauges in the cab, then they look under it!!!! then the guy said why do you not have duals... I was just like, hmmmm, i am not cool enough i gues...

Ok guys thanks for the input. I was just wanting to go with some Texas Speed headers and Y pipe or something along those lines and didnt want to shell out $$ for the ARH's with the catted Y pipe if I didnt have to.
My tint ended up being too dark so I had to get that taken care of before I could pass this last time. Just didnt know what kind of engine mods I could do and not have to worry about passing in the future.

The only time I was hassled about tint was when I put 5% on my side windows. It was a dodge singlecab v-6, with no muffler, that was called the "black widow" haha. I removed the tint and got an inspection, with no muffler.

Well I think this shop I went to was pretty straight by the book. I only had 15% on, got that changed to the 30% or whatever it was suppose to be and then he tells me the tinted visor on my windshield is 1 inch lower than allowed
Needless to say I will probably find a different place to take it next year. Thanks again for the help guys. I appreciate it.

That's because the state sent out an email to all of the inspection stations tightening the chain on tinted lamps. Larger fines and suspension of inspection licenses if they are caught with their ID on the inspection sticker of a vehicle with tinted lamps or too dark of windows.
