Default Any K5 owners around here?

Just picked up a 78 K5 to use as a work vehicle/off road toy so I dont have to drive my SSS every day. Just wondering if there were any other K5 owners around here that can help me out with this thing, it needs a bit of TLC but it seems like its goign to be a good truck.

It definitely needs a bit of love but for what I gave for it I couldn't be happier. It came with the original 350 but it was out of the truck. I've decided to scrap the old 350 block and go with a 90s 305 TBI motor with a carb intake. What I lose in power I will hopefully gain in drive ability and fuel mileage. Plus with the 305 being a roller cam motor and only having 80k miles on the clock I feel it's the best way to go for the truck right now. Eventually it'll get a 6.0 but that'll be a while down the road.

My plow truck is an 84 K5. Old & ugly, but it gets the job done.

Just the general dos and donts, common problems or things to look out for. Should have the truck running by tomorrow evening. I know so far I need a tranny kick down cable and a ujoint for the front shaft. Other than that it's just been simple stuff that is needed for every motor swap.

If you plan on doing alot of playing i would put some 1 ton or 3/4 ton axles under it. I had one that was a mud truck and another that i took crawling and both did great. The bodies will pop alot when twisted but nothing to bad. It never left any permanent body damage.

I'll probably stick with the axles that are in it, not going to do any serious off roading and it has a 12 bolt rear and a Dana 44 front axle already so much better than the 10 bolts haha.
