Default What's a reasonable price on a 2-way remote start?

I went to 2 different shops, which use 2 different remote start brands. All I want is a 2 way remote starter for warming up my truck in the winter. And maybe the ability to lock and unlock my doors remotely. Both shops quoted me in the neighbourhood of $700 and that just seems sort of expensive. How difficult is installing one of these things if I decide to tackle the job myself?

thats super crazy!!!! what year truck? and yea that is super expensive!! pretty much all alarms do the same thing just different brands. where i work we use audiovox which is good brand had them on my last two trucks. i think they cost me in the neighborhood of around $85-90 and there top of the line one was about $140(of course i got them at cost). then if you need an fl can which ties into the trucks data system there about $50-65..heck a viper alarm is $200..so you could buy your own parts and have about $300 in it. its not super complex, but its pretty labor intensive. it might take you about 4hrs give or take. all you need is a diagram for your truck and the fl can.

2004 silvy. The insurance company in my area requires the truck to have an aftermarket immobilizer so that adds to the complexity i'm sure, but still, for a simple remote starter/ door unlocker i shouldn't have to pay almost a grand :/
