Default Truck stereo question

ive had my truck for about 2 years now and so far i have basically only invested in simple performance bolt ons, well now i have an itch to improve the stereo system in my truck, which i know basically nothing about so excuse me if i sound ignorant. My problem is i dont know where i should start, i can get 2 mtx 10's w/ truck boxes and an mtx 4 channel, 400 watt amp with all the wireing for $250, which i think is a decent price. But im am not sure if i should go with the subs or first redo the speakers and then do the subs? Also should i invest in a new head unit or is the stocker alright? I think i will only have enough money to either get a mid range head unit and speakers or a mid range head unit and the subs. Which do you think i should do first? Thanks in advance for any replys

The choice is really up to you. It also depends on what kind of music you listen to. If you like rap or rock, I would probably go with subs first. If you get the 4 channel mtx amp, save it for when you get your speakers. A 4 channel amp on ubs can be done, but it is really not meant for it. Go with a 2 cahnnel or mono amp for the subs. Also, what series mtx subs are they, you might need a more powerful amp to run them depending on what series they are.

Yeah.. just depends what you really want. Some 10's will fit nicely behind the seat.

I managed to fit 2 12" DVC down firing under the back seat of my truck. If you are good, you can pull off 4 10".

How much air space on those 12's. I hear Image Dynamics IDQ's require only only about .7cf.

Not very much air space at all. They are Diamond Audio MacDaddy's, and they are a DVC rated at 800 RMS. As the power rating goes up the air space you need goes down. I believe it is less than 1 cubic foot. Of course this is in a sealed inclosure.

First thing to put money in is replacing the stock speakers. You will definetly be able to tell the differance in quality. Then go subs, amp, head unit......alternator....

Those McDaddys's sound awesome. They also require very little airspace.

Yes, the MacDaddy's are a very CLEAN speaker. A lot of my friends say I have one of the cleanest sounding systems they have ever heard.
