That's one of the reasons I was considering the Memphis Audio PRX60C for the front.

There right in the range of the factory deck.

The alpines mentioned by arthursc2 simple like a popular choice on Crutchfeild.

Thanks to this thread, I am going to return the SPS-510 I bought for the Buick and get a midrange speaker instead. Didnt occur to me while shopping that the 510 is coaxial, and thats not good for anyone lol

i wasn't looking to really modify much in my truck (started with AM/FM + tape & 4 speakers), so that's why i got the ones i did.
going back through crutchfield's site, i believe i got the Polk 652s and 462s. yeah, they ain't special or fancy, but they have decent range (40/50-22k), power ratings (100/50W rms), and sensitivities (92/90dB) for 4 Ohm 2-way units.

I believe one of the issues I currently have is that the door speakers had some type of cross over wired in to split the signal. They were corroded and no Tweeter was hooked to it. I couldn't figure out how they were supposed to be wired up or if they were even any good. I also ended up replacing the door harness since they were butchered up.

I had an 04 and went through over 10 variations of setups.

For the best sound a couple of key things are needed.

A good headunit

BYPASS the bose amp. I tried using it several different ways and the best, loudest and clearest setup I had came after I finally bypassed it. The factory amp in internally equalized, it only sends midrange to the rear (no low or high frequency) and overall is far weaker than a standard 22 watt RMS headunit

As someone else stated above go for silk tweeters. Some that I'm aware of that use silk are JL, NVX, polk. There are others. Plastic and metal dome tweeters are piercing high not smooth and clear.

One of the most common missed steps that greatly helps sound is building a ring on the front of the speaker to meet the door panel and guide sound out of the panel. I used some thick window insulating foam from walmart, cost about $5. There is also a company called fast rings that makes them you can buy. It made a big difference in my 04 when I put the rings on the speakers. Before I did this my pillar mounted tweeters always overplayed the other speakers, after the rings the door speakers were louder and clearer and everything blended together much better.

I had memphis door speakers and liked them better than the infinity reference I had before them, but in the future I won't use plastic tweeter speakers again.

Components are better than coax, but you can still get some pretty good sound from coaxials as long as you cover the basics stated above.

Polk db651 are cheap right now, they are last years model. The 6.5" are around 60 the 4x6 for the rear are $50. Won't find a better speaker for that amount of money.

Google polk db651 and just glance at the reviews on the first page of google. Every website they are rated 4.4-4.7 with anywhere from 200-9xx something people rating them per website.

Well what I wrote still applies and you may still have an amp in there, I came across this while searching for something else. This is a write up on a NON BOSE system and it still has an amp. So all of what I wrote applies to your truck.
