Default Sub for a RCSB? Lots of questions

Hey folks, got a stereo question for you all.

I've got a 00' GMC Sierra RCSB. I want to put 1 12" sub in it. I've got a used Kenwood amp I bought from a buddy. Model # on the amp is KAC-848. It's a 4 channel amp, but I don't know the power. I'm kinda hoping this amp will push my front door speakers and 1 sub. Any sub recommendations and also, should I go with ported or sealed? I listen from everything from rap to rock to country. I plan to have a stereo shop build the box.

Also, I've got an old Lanzar DC-12 in my closet. It's never been used and is still in the box (bought it from a friend a while back, figured I'd use it some day). It's pretty old, but do you guys think it would work well?

Rest of the system is a Kenwood head unit and Kenwood door speakers with separate tweeters.

Thanks for any help.

I've had several brand subs, and have enjoyed them all. I loved my Kicker Solobaric. I had one in the truck and it performed great. I do alot of installations in different vehicles, and was very impressed with the new Rockford Fosgate series subs, as well as the latest JL Audio subs(those things handle serious power!!!!). Dollar for dollar.....I've been most impressed with the last subs I had in my truck. They were the Audiobahn Flame Q 12s. They handled alot of power, nice tight bass, and they were very affordable(not to mention they looked great as well!!!!).

That's just the subs I've had experiences with lately. Overall.....I would choose the latest JL Audio sub....if budget isn't a factor.

I'm also fond of a sealed enclosure, but check the recommendations on the sub you purchase. With my experiences....the bass seems to be fuller and more crisp, whereas the ported boxes seem to be more punchy and overall loud.

my setup is 2 jl W0 10's in a custom sealed box. i'm a tall guy and in a rcsb i can't even tell they're back there. i have an alpine deck and a rockford power series 451S amp pushing them. i'm the same way as you. i listen to rock, rap, and country. this system sounds awsome on all those types of music. i don't know too much about what's the best all around amp out there. but i must say jl makes some good aubs and a custom box should do them good.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've dealt with the JL's before. I have no complaints about them. I had two JL (W0, I think) 10's in my car with a ported box. They worked well, with all types of music. I'm not trying to win any bass contest or anything, just want something to put a smile on my face.

I'll check into the stuff you guys mentioned.

I would go with the JL W1. Cheap and they sound great. That amp will push that sub and a set of fronts with no problem. I did a install for a friend and took out his middle seat and made a box and console all together. It looked great and rocked hard.

use the dc 12 if the mounting depth isn't too bad. good tuned ported box, you'll sound good, get loud, and hit the low notes. sub forward port up, or sub forward port on the side bottom firing against a cab side wall. no need to buy anything new unless you're wanting something that slams.
