Default stereo stays on...

stock deck, just started today. i turned off the key and opened the door and it stayed on, i tried shutting the door/reopening it and turning the truck on/off and jiggling the key around, still no luck. any ideas? Im worried about running down the battery will it drain much with it turned off? if i unhook the battery cables will it reset something?

This same thing happened to me. Had to replace the radio head unit. I went ahead and put an aftermarket unit it...seemed like a convenient time. To keep your battery from running down, pull the radio fuse under the hood. I can't remember which fuse it is, but that will provide a temporary fix until you can get a new unit. Check your owner's manual for the right fuse.

Prob the sensor/switch in the door to tell when its been opened or not, try going around and opening the other door and see if it goes off, either way, the radio should shut off after 15-30 mins(cant remember) so that the battery doesnt die.

When mine messed up, my radio NEVER turned off. I left it and came outside 2 hours later and it was still playing. I would caution relying on the 15/30 minute fail safe.

My brother had this happen on his 03 silverado. I just pulled the radio fuse waited for a minute and put it back in. Haven't had a problem since then...

sorry i havent been back on for a while but heres an update for you guys.
it was the RAP that was staying on, i had thought it might be the door switch in the latch, so a couple days later when it did it again i just opened the passenger door and it went off. so i guess some time in the near future ill be replacing the latch switch.
my next question is, is it available separately, or do i have to buy the whole latch? and how do i go about changing it out?
