Default Which speaker ... L5 or L7 ???

It's going in my wifes MINI, if I can talk her into it. I'm looking at somewhere between .8-.9 cf. It will be in a sealed box. I've already got a Kicker KX600.1 amp to use with it.

Which one and why??

BTW, I'm looking at a 10.

I should have mentioned too ... SQ is FAR more important than SQL.

OK ... what about an 8" L7? Box volume will be .82 cu feet.

well, for sq, i wouldnt say a kicker solo-barik. i would probably go for infinity or JL. for SPL, L7 or maybe MTX. I want L7's for SPL.

oh, and im pretty sure that L5's have better frequency response than L7's so them for SQ of the 2.

10" L5 = 450rms, frequency response 24-100k, minimum .66 cubic feet
10" L7 = 600rms, frequency response same as L5, airspace same as L5
10" compVX = 600rms, frequency response is 24-500, minimum .8 cubic feet

and I dont know jack **** about frequencies, I just figured I'd post it up so you guys could help him on that.

and definetly DONT get an 8" woofer. Stick with a 10 or 12. Make sure when you buy you get the correct ohm sub, if its just one sub and its DVC you'll want a 4-ohm sub.

Why not the 8? Keep in mind this is a single sub system, not for SPL. Space is at a VERY premium since its going in the hatch of a MINI Cooper. I'm thinking an 8 in an oversized box will have a nice clean sound and will move around a lot resulting in a deep powerful sound.

what difference is an 8 in an oversized box vs a 10 in a regular box, same space, why NOT get the 10? Can you not spare 2 more inches? 10s arent that much more and it will sound better.

If you are gonna go with either the L5 or L7, go with the L7, over all better, mad with better materials and will last longer.

In one word -- HUGE! A bigger box will allow the speaker to respond to lower frequencies better than a smaller box will. The box volume requirements are VERY crucial to a good sounding speaker.

Example: I have a set of 12's in my truck with .88 per side. When I had my car, I had a pair in a box with 1.5 per side. That setup was absolutely KILLER. It would pound so damn hard you couldn't swallow. What's in my truck (better speakers and equivelant power) won't do anything like what was in my car. In fact, when it starts dropping down low, they start clipping BAD. That's cause there just isn't the air space behind them they need to cushion themselves.
