you could use a hi-lo converter to keep the stock head unit & if you're doing the wiring youc an splice into the factory amp...but to be completely honest you're better off spending the $$ on a new head unit & getting rid of the stock sub & amp & puttin an amp on a new set of highs & throw 2 10's in under the seat...worth the money trust me

well the only reason i want to keep the factory unit is because its a 2000 dolllar navigation system i would just like to add and amp to bose mids and hi's and add some 10's with out removing anything...maybe im asking for too much

you can always buy a JL clean sweep or Fosgate 3sixty. Box of the devices allow the use of factory radio but give you much more tuning capability to your speakers as far as the equalizers and crossovers go. I myself have no experience with either but have considered both. I always went the aftermarket head unit route and always ditched any factory amps. aftermarket amps imo clean up the sound so much better.

would not be too hard on that one, the speaker wire are in a loom right behind the nav unit so there is no need to find the factory amp to tap in with a LOC.

However, if you are wanting a different amp on the mids and highs it is advised that you disconnect your factory amp and run just the aftermarket one. *note you will need 2 LOC's for the 4 channel amp and will need to hook each LOC up to the appropriate 2 sets of speaker wire to maintain proper balance and fade with the new amp.

You will need a 3rd LOC for the sub amp which only needs a mono signal so you just need to tap into 1 set of speaker wires so it is much easier than the 4 channel.

Another way is to use the JL clean sweep or similar device to run all your rca's off of which may make it a bit easier.

In short it can be done it is just gonna take a lot of work and a lot of time to complete. Oh, and make sure you dont throw 100 watts at them bose speakers, they might not like it too much.

I doubt the nav unit will have rca preouts from the factory. Usually the external amp is hardwired tothe headunit with no rca's required.

I think bose usually has around 20-30 watts going to the speakers (someone correct me if i am wrong). The thing you are going to run into putting an aftermarket amp on them is the chance of blowing them.

They were made for the power they have right now. If you double that power sure they will be louder but it also increases the chance of blowing them greatly. Part of the reason they are not very loud is because GM knows people get in and crank it up as loud as it will go and they cant have speakers blowing right and left. You must be carefull when mixing aftermarket with factory.

As far as alpine goes the new pdx line is top quality. Plus they are super small which is always a plus in trucks where space is at a premium. If you end up doing all this and can afford it, you cant go wrong with the pdx line.

That is about all I can tell you from here. The next step is going to be to go to the shop you are going to have do the work and see what they recommend. Obviously each shop is going to go about the install differently and possibly recommend different components as well. Therefore, you need to get their opinions on what you want done before you take it to them to do the work, make sure they are going to do what you want done and not try to sell you a bunch of extra stuff you dont want.

Good luck with all of it. Let us know how it sounds when you get it all done! and take some pics as well!

well thomas it sounds like im just going to have to change out those bose speakers for aftermarket which kicks the price up pretty good.... you would expect a name like bose to be able to hold more power than that....thanks for all you info
