The stereo in my regular cab is pathetic. I'm not going for anythign crazy, but I want to be par with an average new car. I guess I'm at a disadvantage without room for 6 speakers like a car. I have the stock deck with aftermarket speakers (bass blockers on the rear) and a kenwood powered sub.
Bass is not the problem, as I'm ditching the pos powered sub for a real amp and sealed 12. The midrange is what sucks, I don't know if its cuz there are only the 2 door speakers to do all the work, or the 4x6's in the pillar wheezing in my ear.
Do your guys' sytems sound good with an aftermarket H/U and decent components in the doors? And what to do about the pillar speakers? I'm contemplating putting bigger ones back there, but don't know if that would make the imaging problem worse. Maybe 6x9's in lil boxes behind the seats instead?

I have EC and components up front and I'm not going to bother with the rear. So I wont recommend pillar speakers because components should sound good enough and 4x6s wont add what they're worth...
I would recommend a cheaper type of component set. Either the crystals or one of infinitys cheaper sets, amp those according to what they can handle.
Get some type of after market H/U, just make sure it has all the right outputs.
Then ofcourse as you said, a different sub and an amp for that.
This will all probably be prett pricey unfortunetly, but totally worth it. H/U + components + sub(s) = all you need.
