Default Laptop is down Hard, need advice

My laptop crashed hard last night. Everything, I mean everything was on that damn thing

Did I have it backed up? Hells No!

And the kicker! I'm one month out of warranty, and they(HP) sure as **** won't cover it

So what had happened was, I fired it up, went to the Login screen, the screen started to fizzle, then it went bright green with some random blue lines through it. I was online with HP Tech Support last night trying to boot it up various ways. About 2hrs. They told me it was a hardware problem and that I needed to take it to an Authorized HP repair center well, after work I'm headed to Comp USA.

Any thoughts/suggestions on what this might be?

Sounds like a video card or display failure.

I got a pretty good deal on a Toshiba at Comp Usa for my latest laptop. It was an open box, and I got a $2300 unit for $1000. Shoulda said $800!

You shouldn't have to lose any data if you really care. The drive and other internals are ok.

2 questions

1. Anyone ever replace an lcd screen in a laptop?
2. if so, how can I tell if its the actual lcd screen or the lcd inverter thats the problem?

btw, lcd screen is out of the laptop, they sell new for $350 bucks! but it may be the inverter which is only $80
