Question How to remove radio from 2006 Silverado?

I need to install a FM adapter for my Sirius radio and I need to get the factory radio out to install it.

What is the best way to get the plastic panel off so I can get to the radio? I haven't tried yet but it looks like it could be a big pain in the azz.

Just pull it off...it pops right out. You can use a flat head screw driver to pry it open enough to get your fingers to grip it, but I don't recommend it. I use my gloves that have the rubber grip on them to get a good hold.

I found this link, so the whole dash trim piece comes off?

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/GM/PDF/460029.pdf

I've installed many radios over the years but never had to take the whole front of the dash off.. lol

Yup, the whole front dash cover pulls right off. You will proabably have to tilt the steering wheel down and move the shifter down to get it to pull out all the way.
I usually don't pull it completly off, I'll just rotate the right side upwards enough to get at the stereo.

there is an adapter that will allow you to use your Sirius radio through the AUX button on the radio, just like it was factory installed. You control everything through the factory head unit....

What type radio you talking about, my factory 2006 radio or an older model?

I've heard you could do that with a F-Body stock head unit by using a adapter going through the cd changer port.

if you do this, put a thin towel over the screw driver so you dont scratch/chip the plastic

Yes, American International makes one called Neucleus, along with PAC and Peripheral Electronics.
