Default Friend has question about upgrading stereo on 05 Silverado

My friend has the basic stock stereo on his 2005 silverado and wants to just upgrade the speakers. Will this make a big difference? The speakers we want to use are these: Pioneer
They are 4 ohm. Does anyone know what the factory door speakers are? We definitely don't want a reduction in volume. Thanks for the help!

most factory are 4 ohm impedance. Yes, just upgrading speakers over factory will help, and later adding a small amplifier will even take it to the next step.

Those will actually sound decent on the stock HU since they dont require huge amounts of power but as stated above they would do best on a aftermarket amp. This is assuming of course that he doesnt have bose.

I will say one thing I have noticed going from stock speakers to aftermarket off the stock HU sometimes gives a decrease in midbass output (I am guessing because of the lack of power). Just be aware of this but the highs should deffinately be louder and cleaner.

Agreed 110% ^^^^

when adding 'better' speakers, sometime you loose efficiency, which means you need to add more power. But it does depend on the speakers, coax or seperates, you do purchase.

yeah it'll sound fine on the stock head unit but once you put an amp on it you might as well change out the head unit also because if you don't you'll need a hi-lo converter & basically you'll get more efficient power out of an aftermarket head unit rather than keeping the stock head unit...i originally went with aftermarket speakers & my stock head unit...once i switched the HU i noticed a HUGE difference...i don't even have my speakers on an amp & they scream...it's all about personal taste
