Well just finished it. Took me the better part of the day due to mostly lolly gagging. Heres some pics and a little how to for the trucks. I spent 17 bux for the jack, 3' cable, and 3 spools of 22g wire.

So basically your going to pull the deck (make sure you know the Anti-Theft code if its programmed in btw.)

and take the bottom cover off.
this is what you will have...


find the connector like this, it will be off to the left.


buy a 1/8th" 'phone jack' from Radio Shack or comparable. part number for Radio Shack is 247-0246. basically what you do is go off of this diagram here (courtesy Jason Novak): https://ls1tech.com/forums/9845816-post107.html

take and clip the 1st and 3rd wire with enough space to splice wires to it, I went about half way from the connector to where it disappears to the CD player. The wire does pull out more as well.

Then solder 2 left channel wires, 2 right channel wires and a ground to the jack, here is mine: Red is Left, Green is Right and Black is Ground. (follow the diagram if necessary)


Then splice the wires together according to the diagram above, I covered mine in tape, I would recommend some sort of insulation; tape, shrink wrap, etc. Also, I took the ground wire and screwed it in to the back of the deck where there is already a screw holding the floor of the deck to the back wall.:


and then put the jack where ever you please, I mounted mine just between the deck and AC controls right where the dash bezel forms a T. I had to shave mine down a little on the back side for enough threads to poke through. (sorry for the bad picture)

sound is great, I was using an FM transmitter before this and would do it again in a heart beat

 

nice job. I did the radio in my trans am and it works awesome. Last night i opened up the radio out of my truck to take a look. It's the 6 disc so the insides are different, but i'm gonna test a few wires and see if i can add a jack.

i did this to my truck on friday afternoon when i got home from work.

works great and for a total of about $9 and some change, you can not go wrong!

what mode do you set the radio to if you wanna play music through the jack?

 

You set it to CD, but you have to have an actual CD in the player and the jack just replaces the CD's sound with your ipod or whatever you have plugged into the jack

 

I tried this on a 04 stock radio and it is alot different, and it did not work... I believe the signal comes off the CD player itself as a digital signal instead of analog like the previous models... I tested every connection, and I only got digital signals , a solid day wasted...

 

Thanks for the writeup! I found this thread googling around to find out how to use the AUX on my 2000 Silverado. This workaround worked great! I didn't have an interrupting stereo jack on hand, so I wired in a selector switch between the two sources. I also hardwired in a line for a phone. Sweet deal!
