Been wondering this too. I know the opening in the dash bezel is only for a din and a half, but the dash opening itself appears to be larger. I got the measurements from somewhere about 3 weeks ago and you'll have to at least modify the bezel for it to fit, other than that I'm not sure.

This has been asked numorous times on gmfullsize One way that I have seen work is to swap to an 03+ bezel and move the a/c controls down about .5" to give clearance for the new headunit. The bezel itself will have to be trimmed a little at the bottom since it is longer than the 99-02 bezel. Of course its a little more detailed, but thats the basics.
Physically, it will fit in the 99-02 dash, but the stock bezel around the headunit will need to be modified for the larger unit. I plan to do this one day, but don't know if it will actually happen or not.

I have an 02 gmc and i put in a kenwood double-din in my ride. You have to modify the bezel, about half inch on top and bottom. the sides are too wide so you have to make some 1/4 inch filler pieces. I went to the local hobby store and bought a sheet of plexiglass and cut some pieces and super glues the pieces on there. after it dried I sanded around the areas where the cuts where made and applied some duraglass. way stronger than bondo. smooth out with 80 grit, then with 180 and primer. then watersand with 400 and go to your local paint store and buy a can or grey trim paint and spray away. hope this helps. if you want pics i could probably send some through my camera phone. 505-615-0115 Robert.
