is you interior graphite, cause I am sure that summit sells graphite can paint for about 8 bucks. It matches perfectly when I installed a 2 cluster guage bezel.

Default Bringing it back...

Anybody done it yet? I just bought a DDX7015. I am trying to decide if I want to try it myself or pay a stereo shop. I'm sure I'll need some type or harnesses etc...

Default Chop chop

So, I'm grinding and chopping the out of my dash. The newer 2003 radio/AC housing (behind the dash) doesn't fit worth a crap. Its actually smaller than the 2002 version. So I chunked that thing.
The 2003 dash bezel fits pretty good except for the right side steering column area. The 02 AC controls are a little too thick and push the bezel out to the point it can't lock into the clip. I have a plan for that. It involves more grinding and some permanent screws I'm gonna wait until the radio is in first.
As I figured the AC controls are a TIGHT fit. I dont want to grind on the bezel because I think it would look like ***.
Here are some pics so far. I get the head unit this week. We'll see how that goes.

This is with the new dash bezel just snapped in place. This is where I started:

This is from the bottom. You'll never see this unless you're laying on the floorboard looking up:

This is the bezel pushing out due to the thick AC controls:

Normal view. Ignore the radio. It's a 1 1/2 din so it's gonna look screwed up right now:

Does anybody even read this thread?

It's been done... many times. I wanted to do it a long time ago but decided not to because of fitment issues with the 03+ bezel. There was another guy who actually used the 99-02 bezel, but he did some work with chemicals. If I recall correctly, you'll need to bend that metal braket behind the radio and possibly get the 03+ skeleton for the radio and HVAC unit. Also, I think there were some dremeling of tabs on some pieces.

This one has a lot of different ways guys did it using the 03+ bezel.

This one is on the same thread... but he used the 99-02 bezel. It's a lot cleaner, but for me would have been a pain in the ***.

well I was following this thread but on your last response I did not have an answer since I knew that really no one had a great answer to your question. I know that someone on fullsize had just shaved and played with the existing dash, but still a little fuzzy on how to approach this. I really want a 2 din but I was just tempted to quit. The answer to my problem was this head unit, but no one cared. but so far it looks good.

I was trying to figure out what you did to the ac unit cause it looks like it is suppose to go there. did you mount it a little lower?

The AC unit was the biggest PITA. I took the 02 radio/AC housing and cut the bottom off deep enough for the AC controls to be dropped as far as needed. I also had to cut the plastic in the dash. See the square hole in the first pic? That is part of the dash. Not a part you can easily pull out. I took a hacksaw blade and trimmed all that level. I will get pics when I pull it apart for the radio.
2003 AC control have dual climate control and a different wiring harness.

If it looks like total **** when I'm done, I will put the AC controls in the glove box and move my 3 A-pillar gauges below the radio. I've seen it done and its not bad at all.

That is pretty cool. I don't think I would like it, though... having to reach across the passenger seat just to turn up the heat doesn't appeal to me.
