Default Complete Re Do Of Sound System in 2011 Silverado RCSB

I am somewhat picky about vehicles but I am over the top about my vehicle stereos.

I just bought a 2011 Silverado RCSB and it has an aftermarket Double DIN Kenwood stereo with Apple Car Play installed. Which is nice because it ends there.

I'm assuming the speakers in the truck are the factory ones because they are horrible. I'm not sure if they are bad because of the size or quality but they are horrible.

So the internet says my truck has 6.5/6.75 inch speakers in the door and 4 inch speakers behind the seat/back corners of the cab.

I'm a 6X9 kind of guy so these sizes are new to me.

I'm just looking to replace the factory ones with some of the best sounding ones on the market.

So what are you guys replacing the factory speakers with? I'm not totally against component speakers but I do prefer all in one.

Also to add a little bass I thought about putting one of those newer technology compact, self contained subwoofers with the built in amp. They are made to fit under the seat.

I'm kind of a big guy so I don't like anything behind the seat, so these are really my only option (unless I wanted to do one of those outrageously expensive ones that hidden in the jump seat).

Regardless, any help, opinions, experience, or ideas on upgrading a sound system on a regular cab Silverado please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I did JL with Pioneer head that looks OEM in gmt900 trucks. I also added a 10" sub and amp for all 5 speakers. I'd skip on the 4" in the rear if I did it again though, it will just about run you out of the cab with the windows down. Any louder would be obscene. Lol. My favorite addition was the back up camera, I use my rcsb as my daily work truck so I needed it for trailers and the big screen is nice instead of in the rear view like the OEM camera was displayed...

Which 4 inch speakers did you end up installing?

In a reg cab, the sound stage will be better with good components up front (amplified) and no 4" rears. If rear fill is desired, power them off the headunit and amp the front components so most of the sound is coming from the front (of if both off headunit, fade to the front).

Sound is very subjective. The tone of one speaker may be preferred over another buy one and opposite for another. Personally I like the warmth of Infinity drivers and have used them in several systems over the years. Their Reference series is a middle of the road driver but I like them for the sound and price point.

I have no experience with the all-in-one compact subs but a lot of folks in the Jeep community like them. If you have a full console, JL has a stealth box that may fit the bill here. Not sure there is enough space under either seat for one of the compact enclosures so you will need to verify before going that route.

I gotcha about the 4 inch rears. But instead of just not putting them in I was thinking of installing them and fading them in or out as needed to achieve the sound I'm looking for. Even if that means fading them out completely

Crutchfield said 4X6s will go in the slot without modification so in the grand scheme of things even if I install them and fade them completely out I'd really only be out a few dollars for speakers I don't use.

I'd rather have them installed and never use them than not install them and wished I had.

As far as the compact subs, I'm excited to try one as well, I have heard some very good things about them.

JL component speakers in doors and the 4" are also JL Audio. I believe they are also have a tweeter. I had to turn the amp all the way down and cross almost everything out but highs and a tad bit of midrange for the 4", they help balance the system out nicely, I'd just skip on amplifying them and do what Bigkid recommend...

JL is definitely my speakers of choice. I had them in my 99 and absolutely loved them.

I'm researching the JLs as we speak.

Thanks for the input.
