I have a 2006 Silverado SS. I have the stock stereo system (non Bose). Has anyone put Alpine SPS-170A in the front door speakers? The stockers really suck. Would I be able to notice an improvement with these using the stock deck? I plan on putting in a new deck, but not for a while. I put a pair of these in my Z28, and I noticed an improvement even with the stock deck installed. I know there was a slight modification that had to be done because of the 2 ohm/4 ohm difference in the stockers and Alpines. Any help would be appreciated!

 

If I were you, I would just wait and do it all at the same time. I have an '04 SSS and I kept all my factory Bose speakers (mids and highs), but added an Alpine MRA-D550 theater amp and it sounds damn good for factory.

 

Right now, I'm just looking for a temporary (cheap) way to get better sound. Unfortunately I don't have the Bose speakers. When I say that the stock speakers sound like crap, I really mean it!

 

I have a 2000 Silverado and replaced the front speakers with the Alpine sps-170a speakers and they sound a thousand times better. I have had them for about 3 years and am very happy with them still.

 

On my dad's 04, I noticed absolutely no improvement using aftermarket speakers with the stock head unit. Actually sounded worse, and had less bass response. I put a small 2 channel amp on them, and the difference was amazing.
