Depends on what head unit you have, mine didnt have provisions for sub outputs.
so i used a speaker level converter which i spliced into my rear speaker wires. it worked but wasn't great

You will need to buy a line out converter.

THe man diff in a 10 and a 12 is the 10 will be more tight bass more of a rock sub were a 12 will hit lower... a 12 likes 100 or 80 hurts and lower ( i cant spell so im not sure if its spelled the right way but bear with me) and a 10 likes 150 to 70 or so... a sealed box is for tight and quick bass and can be smaller to fit in better places a ported box is be louder but must be bigger.... and for brand i love JL audio imo i think that they r the best sub.. u pay for what u get.. and if u go with a diff head unit kenwood or alpine get the highest voltige u can for the pre outs. and dont go cheap with the wires either cause with cheap wires u get road noise. as for amps jl xant alpin and kicker imo r the best... good luck with what u pick man theirs alot out their its another money pit cause ull get use to it and want more

The depth of bass doesn't necessarily depend on the size of the sub, my 8's hit lows that I have heard 12's run out of breath on. Box size, and port tuning will make and break any sub. Not only that but I listen to a variety of music and they hit all the booming lows of rap, and I can change to some metal and every beat from a double bass drum is defined and punchy. Maybe not as loud as 2 12's but its about sound quality for me.

The acoustics in these new trucks are weird. I just installed one 8" Image Dynamics in a ported box with a 400 watt Crossfire sub amp. It's a well balanced set up in my EC.

I'm running the stock deck and speakers, but the front and rear doors are getting ready to have Treo 6.5's stuffed in them with a Treo amp.

look for a stealthbox. they have boxes designed to kit in trucks that come with a JL10. all you wud need to purchase is an amp. the one i want for my 2008 sierra slt goes under the center consel where the stock sub is. its like $500 for the box and sub. thats a pretty good deal. try goin to crutchfield.com and do vehicle specific subwoofer enclosures
