I just recently took off my L7 off my Sierra for weight reduction so I am left with some MP Quart PSD 216's. These include a 6.5" driver and a 1" tweeter. For some reason I can't get much bass out of them. I know these are not designed for bass but my brother in law blows mine away when it comes to low frequency responce with his stock Bose system in his Silverado.
I have my MB Quarts running off an Orion Xtreme 500.2 and have the H/P crossover set at 60Hz. If I turn it down more, the speaker will distort at higher volumes.
I am considering selling them and buying me a good set of components that will produce better low frequencies. I have out of the car audio scene for a while so please someone recomment me something good.

well his factory bose system has a sub thats where hes beating you with bass. i personally have some memphis components in my doors with tweeters and crossovers. they have pretty good bass. you could try getting a 4 channel amp for the mids and highs and get a equalizer and it will help out a ton. check out www.memphiscaraudio.com and look under products then signal processors , 16-EQ50 or 16-EQP4

That's because he has an actual enclosure with a 6.5" in it. Not just his door speakers. You might wanna look into getting one from a wrecking yard or something and finding a cheap amp that will handle the ohm load OR replace the 6.5" in it with a standard 4ohm midbass driver of your choice. The enclosure sits under the center console towards the front of the dash.

Properly mat your doors, that is a good start to getting good midbass out of them. To get anything better, you'll need a dedicated sub. I'm sure there area ton of pre-fab stuff for you, or you can make something work.

While we are on the subject I've been looking for the same thing. I remember about 15-20 years ago I was riding in a guys truck and he had some 6.5" boston acoustics and they were thumping hard (for 6.5's that is) I honestly thought he had some 8's behind the seat. Anyone have more to add?

have you guys ever listened to the memphis components? i think mine was like 125 for the 6.5's the tweeters and crossovers. i got clarion speakers in the rear and without an amp mine has some real good midrange. you would be suprised at what just a equalizer will do to a system with an amp on the mids and highs
