I gave up on CB's years ago and my knowledge is limited, but did you tune the antenna with and SWR meter?

well first check your grounding. also make sure you don't have any shorts in your coax cable... if the antenna isn't grounded right it wont pick up/transmit far..

So you have an external swr meter to tune it with? where is the antenna mounted? roof i take it since its a mag mount.. I dont know what to tell you CB's are finnikey as hell and really irritate me. I had mine set up and was getting a swr of 1.5. I moved it over about 4 inches, same ground as before and swr is through the roof again. I really really just dont care about them anymore. If it works it works if it doesnt I cant tell you why lol. Probably time to pester the guys over at cbradiotalk.com they know alot although all they will probably tell you is to ground everything with flat braid ground straps. Like grount your doors and hood and **** to your cab and then re ground the cab to the frame. It seems like a waste of time to me but to each their own...

Oh and did you use a multimeter to check for shorts tip to tip on the coax cable? Check the hot center wire and the outside ground jacket...

I don't think it is the best idea to ground it directly to the battery. You really need to ground it to the frame or the body.

I wasn't really even talking about the radio ground... I was talking about the antenna ground. I was upset the other day when i made that post cause my swr was high... well I went over my mount install and made sure to file off some more paint where the mount was grounded and boom! My swr is now sittin at 1.3 hahah.

I have a Magnum S6 and I love it...my only other suggestion to you other than what everyone has said is make sure that you dont have any extra coax "coiled up"...when I was 16 I had it like that and I couldnt get out at all and I brought it to a CB shop and he just laughed...meh thats what you get for being 16 right... lol...just thought Id put that out there
