I decided it was time to upgrade my stock BOSE HU and go with something different. I ended up buying an Alpine cda 9886 but need some info before I install it. Its been a little bit since I had to do this and my previous rides were all early 90's stangs and maro's so with this bose crap, wheel controls and everything I am confused.
I have the GM harness I need to connect to the Alpine one but noticed a couple things. First, on the GM harness it says Do not use the 2003's accessory wire and to use the provided red wire with fuse tap and locate an accessory power source in the fuse box. Why is this and which PIN do I tap into if anyone knows? Now it also says NOT FOR USE WITH BOSE OR MONSOON AMPLIFIED SYSTEMS...... Am I SOL here as well becuase my SSS has the full BOSE set-up?
Also I was told it was going to cost me an additional $125 or so to keep my XM with this unit. WTF is that? I have XM now through my stock system so what is costing my the $125 to add it to this new HU? Seems like it should be a simple plug and play option since the antenna and all that crap is ran.
Can anyone shed some light on this and what I need to do with all this BOSE crap, XM, and power source. Everything else is a straight shot but these three things have me confused.

I'm not sure about tapping a wire, but you should've gotten the harness adapter that was for bose equipped trucks b/c of the bose amp you have...something like peripheral's GMAH24B. On the XM thing, yes you need an adapter for alpine...I think the XM direct 2 box from Audiovox...http://www.cartoys.com/Default.cfm/p...ct_2_CNP2000UC ...but you can probably find it cheaper on ebay...what you can do with that is unplug the antenna off the oem box and take the square connector off and attach it to the mini tuner and use the stock antenna...that's how I did it in my TBSS.

yeah I think I came across the right harness I need but damn, now its almost not worth upgrading the HU. The install in harnesses and crap is costing me more the HU I bought basically and thats just to keep the basic crap I have like XM, wheel controls and chimes, etc. Not to sure I want to even bother with this crap now, might just return it all and deal with it.

you do have to have several adapters to retain your steering wheel controls and xm because you are having to plug factory into aftermarket.....like mounting 5 lug wheels on a 6 lug truck lol.....in most cases, especially with bose, it will be dang near as much for the accessories to hook the aftermarket HU up as the HU itself...good luck if you do install it and let us know if you have any more questions.

Well I returned the HU for now, I cant see spending close to $600 for a HU plus the right harnesses to basically keep what I already have going on in my truck. Guess I am just going to get a kit for the ipod hook up and leave it at that for now unless something else comes up.

easier than spending 600 to get everything to work with your bose is to use that to buy aftermarket speakers/amp.
No expensive harness needed.
(you will still be SOL on the xm though unless you would just like to transmit through FM. you might be able to use an input on your headunit if you can take your xm signal through an RCA interconnect)
