I know Pioneer Has head units that will be able to do this....But all the adapters was expensive..That is what my Audio shop said when i wanted to do that... They said it would be alot of line tapping in order to be able to use all the steering controls...So hope this helps you but i was looking at the top of the line Pioneer..Ok

I had the Alpine (8778 i think it was) and I was able to use the steering wheel controlls by use of an infra red adaptor that the head unit 'saw'

Depending on the head unit you get PAC makes different interfaces for keeping you steering wheel controls. I have a Alpine CDA-9857 waiting to go in my truck and the reason I went with that one is because with the 9856 I had to use the universal interface which uses the infra-red eye, and apparently there is a delay. With the 9857 I am able to use the Alpine specific interface which is hard wired up and has no infa-red eye and no delay in button response. Point being, is that e-mail PAC and tell them which deck you plan on using and they can turn you in the right direction... Crutchfield was a big help when I was researching all of this as well....

if you are worried about price then the steering wheel controls weren't that important to you in the first place.... pay to play!

this is the only way i have heard that works properly!! I dont have steering wheel controls, nor would i want them for this exact reason. But I guess in today's technology it doesnt matter.

I have never had any luck with the ones that use the IR, look for a head unit that has a wired remote onput on the back, and PAC and Peripherial make interfaces that will work well with out the delay. The IR have slow response and are a pain to program.

I have the Alpine IVA-D310 HU in my SS and I used PAC's SWI-ALP interface for the steering wheel controls. It doesn't control everything like track up and down for my iPod or a CD, but it does enough. I also bought the remote for it.

I have heard the older model of that interface (the one with the infared eye) WILL control everything.
