I'm trying to decide if I should save the hassle, time, and money having someone build me a custom sealed enclosure behind the seat or just go with the Subthump box that goes under the seat. I believe I've read and been told that there's not enough airspace in the Subthump box for (2) JL Audio 10W3V2s, but that you can fill it will polyfill and should be ok. What do you guys think I should do, Subthump or custom sealed enclosure behind the seat? What will sound cleaner/better and hit harder? I'll be powering the subs with a JL Audio 500/1 amp. Also, if I had a custom sealed enclosure built behind the seat, will (2) JL Audio 10W3V2s even fit without having to move the seat forward? If not, how much will it have to be moved? Any chance in getting 10W6s in there? Personally, I'd rather have a custom sealed enclosure behind the seat so that I don't give up any space under the seat as I tend to put stuff under there, like my hitch/ball, trailer adapter, programmer, etc.

Ok I would have to say watch out when you are working with those pre-fab boxes. It sounds like you are trying to run some pretty big bass in your truck. The problem with pre-fab boxes is some are weakly made (in most cases). I honestly would stay away from that stuff if you are trying to run 2 10's W3. I made a custom box w/ fiberglassed insides and carpet wrapped. I have 2 Kicker Solo Barac 10's under my 1500 GMC Sierra EXT in a downfire position. It sounds really crisp. Putting it behing the rear seats is a tough job and doesn't leave you with a lot of room to work with. My suggestion is to make or have a custom box made and seal the box with fiberglass with the dimensions that you need. Your box is really going to make the sound in a truck. Use your idea for the W3. You can run a W6 under your seat, BUT the only drawback is it will make you seat angle up to make up for the larger magnet you had to make room for in the box. You dept of a W3 is about 5.75 inches and a W6 is about 6.9 inches. Spend the little extra money that you need to build a box for under your seat and you will like it alot. Also mount your amp behind your seat and buy a capacitor.
Also if you really wanted to get bold, you just buy a JL 12W6 and build a new center console to house your sub.
Go to www.mindtometal.com and I know the owner there. He does some sick *** box building. I'll post some pictures of my friends 03 dodge reg cab that has a fiberglass center console with 2 memphis 12's

Building a custom console to fit a bigger sub (10W6) is really out of my budget. I don't want a box that goes under the seat as I want to save that space so that I can put stuff under it. I have things under there now. I'll probably end up having a custom box made for behind the seat with either (2) 10W3s or (4) 8W3s. Which setup would sound better both powered with a 500/1?

wait till you have the money, dont settle cause youll end up wasting money. i would recomend a custom box with the right airspace. dont just start throwing polyfill around. you can only get so much out of it. and liked smokesierra01 said most prefabs are junk and there made of particle board and arnt sturdy. i have used one mtx thunderform and i didnt think it sounded well. i dont think its worth the money.imo

I agree 2 10's custom box. You will save money in the long run. If you are more into accoustical type music I would go with the 8's. 10's give the best range bass frequency for all types of music. 12's are going to give you that low base that will rattle your truck. Since you are running a pretty powerful sub that 500/1 the 10's will work nice. 4 8's wont sound right because you will have them all rigged to one channel. The ohm load has a lot to do with power output too. Research your ohms that your amp and your subs run at. While you have the seat out and such buy some dynomat (or the equivalent) and run it under your floor and in your doors. Improves sound quality vastly, also cuts the outside noise quite a bit. Your suggested amp/sub combo will blow a pre fab box when run at mid-high power. Use 0 Guage wire for your power wire.
