the jack you install is like a switch on the inside. when you plug the stereo jack into it, it pushes open the contacts from the xm to allow ipod sound only. when you pull the plug it the spring loaded contacts reconnect and you get xm sound back. simple yet effective.

 

I love mine! Even though you can't control it through the radio, its one of the coolest features i have in my truck!
