Default '03 Instrument Cluster

When I start my truck, the instrument cluster takes about 3 to 5 seconds before it comes to life, its totally blank. Scrolled thru here looking for a similar issue, didn't find a post with a similar issue.

I turn the key to the start position, here the fuel pump running, see lights in the cluster lit but when I start it the lights go out, the gauges go limp and there is a black screen while the truck is running. After about 2 - 5 seconds the lights come on, the gauges flash and everything comes to life showing fuel, oil, temp and volts.

Is my cluster going out? Or am I stuck in a time & space continue'um floating in dark matter for that brief moment in time? Could it be those old coke days are coming back to haunt me? Maybe the bong resin is finally getting gooey enough to make my mind stick for a brief moment?

Wait, why am I here again? Was there a BBQ chicken recipe I'm supposed to get?

Chad

It's probably got a bad solder joint. Does it go dead any other time?

Nope, just on start up. I turn the key to the "ON" position, hear the fuel pump running, turn to start and the engine turns - fires - and is running while the cluster is blank, then within a couple of seconds it all comes to life with all gauges reading.

Weird.

Thanks Skolman, I will give it a tap. If that works then like you said, I got physical issues that will need to be fixed. Cheers!

Man from what I have read these clusters can cause a few different issues once they develope a problem in the solder. I just had mine completely rebuilt and gone thru for my 04’ for $140.
