Oil Pump, Double Row Timing Chain

Are all high volume oil pumps ported, also any input on installing an oil pump with a double row timing chain.I believe I will have to shim the pump. Have you done this and what did you use?

Why are you looking at a high volume pump? Generally a good quality stock replacement is plenty.

Besides the info I get on here I also have two books.
1) How to Build Hi Perf LS1/LS6 V8s by Will Handzel from Cartech
2) Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance by Christopher Endres from HPBOOKS
Both recommend increasing the volume of the oil, one says that these engines have an oil supply problem that leads directly to starved bearings. Also I've read that the early oil pumps fail for no reason and without warning. So I'm just trying to be safe. It's probably overkill but WTF

The only thing I'd worry about (and I'm not sure how much of an issue this is) is a high volume pump sucking the pan dry. I asked a lot of questions when I put my engine together and the consensus seemed to be to just get a stock replacement. High pressure and high volume were either for extreme applications or to act as a band-aid for another problem. I ended up going with a Melling stock replacement.
