I bought my wife a new Alpine cd player for christmas. Got the XM radio tuner, install kit, harness, adapter, everything needed to install it in her 2002 Tahoe(non-bose) I have been installing my own stuff for years. Multiple subs, amps, x-overs, you name it i have probably done it. I took the time last night to solder all connectors and used heat shrink to connect the radio harness to the install kit harness. Got everything ready last night, for a quick install this morning while she is still asleep. I am trying to suprise her with it. Wanted her to hop in the truck to go to work and see the new stuff and be like "wow". So, i get up this morning, hook it all up, all good, shes still asleep, and what do ya know, no freaking sound. Everything lights up and works, just no sound at all, radio or cd. I triple checked everything. I must have gotten a screwed up radio. Now I have to go exchange the damn thing

You might want to check each output line with a spare speaker or something. Other than that, if you've done this before you more likely put everything the wat it should be. I think you just got a bad radio.

i would venture to say it's a bad radio as well. don't feel bad. i got a 700 buck kenwood when i was in japan and got home with it and the damn cd player wouldn't work. found out it was the wiring harness that plugs into the stereo. i had to shove a penny in the crack to make it real tight. now it plays great. but thats just an example of how even a top end reciever can have faults...

Yep, this has gone from a nice suprise, to, how the hell can I trouble shoot this without her knowing??
The easiest way I guess is to just take it back to BestBuy and they can either exchange it, or test it and tell me its fine and I have done somthing wrong.

i was about to comment on the security settings in that vehicle that your putting it in.. but you said it lights up and what not, so it obviously works. hmmm that is odd... lets hope its an input/output problem on the radio. There is nothing in the little book that comes with the HU that says anything entering a password or something to make it work?

the only other thing i know that it could possibly be but doubtful is this add on harness that crutchfield sells. i know i have to have one on my wifes trailblazer in order for her security lights and door dingers to work and onstar. like i said, i doubt that is the problem.

I got it figured out. I forgot the Tahoe had an amp, so I didnt hook up the blue remote wire. Well, went back and hooked it up and now all is good
Next on the list, is to get those 5 10 inch MB Quart subs, and Kicker amp out of the closet and hook it up for her.
My wife is gonna be jammin, and i'm still running a stock radio. One day i'll leave the go fast stuff alone long enough to treat myself to a nice radio
