might have warped the heads if they got too hot.

Check the tensioner, that could have been why the belt slung. I know they go out on fbodies sometimes.

I wouldnt be worried at all, Pappy. I didnt overheat my truck like but the story goes something like this:
Went down to the beach me, and a girl slept in the backseat of my truck, I kept remote starting it with my alarm to get some ac going, it automatically turned off after 15 minutes so I said screw it and started it up with the key and left it running. Woke up about 10am with hot air blowing on me and the temp gauge pegged at 260 and the trans temp gauge pegged at whatever, who knows how long it was like that, because it was in the middle of summer on the sand with a clutch fan so you do the math on the overheating problem. Nothing was wrong wtih the motor when I pulled it about 30K later, the cylinder were perfect, the heads gaskets were fine. If it isnt consuming any coolant I wouldnt worry about it, I think you wil be fine.

belt went on the way home.
it did not shut down, got the spare belt on and it is running.
no smoke out of the pipes but their is a large amount of tiny bubbles
coming up in the coolant tank now, may have lost a head or gasket.
