Thinking of picking up a cheap open diff, and making a lincoln locker till I can get my Eaton. I know its gonna be just like a spool, but how rough will it be on the street? Also, do you just weld the spider gears together, or do you weld them to the carrier. I think you just weld them together, but not 100% sure.

I ran a locked diff on my old chevy 4wd. Its not that bad around town you will have a bit of a time in the rain or slick roads. when you go around a turn you will want to be off of the throttle and coasting if you have any speed b/c the rearend will get out from under you. In the dry weather (that is not a prob in the south now) you will be ok. Just get used to tires barking when you make a tight turn. If I remember right I just welded the spider gears together. After the upgrade to an eaton or whatever I would replace the u-joints after the locker.

Gonna have to do it twice. Going out of town week after next and dont have the spare $$$ to do it right the first time, so another G80 is going in for a few weeks/months
