i have looked into the XD, the glock, and the S&W......keep in mind i love S&W anyways so i am a little biased......the XD: great gun, very reliable, comfortable to shoot IMO......the glock: I HATE THEM, they dont fit my hand well at all, i hate the feeling when i shoot them, they are however one of the best guns on the market, this one is personal preference, i have many friends that wont shoot anything else......the S&W: i shot a 45 and LOVE IT, the controls are easy to get to in a hurry, comfortable shooting position in my hand, i like the interchangable palm swells for the grip, removable safety (only on the 45), little recoil, FUN TO SHOOT!. im selling my S&W 4526 to buy the M&P 45!!!! these are all my personal opinion and nothing else, i love to shoot and have shot these three and this is how i feel about them......i recommend finding a way to shoot the guns u r intetested in and make your decision on that. good luck

I absolutely loved my Glock. Know that the .45 and 10mm are different sized frames though, so if you held a .45 itll be different that the .40. Have you looked at the Sig, and HK? I loved my Sig even more than my Glock, but the finish sucked and it would get surface rust after a few days in the truck. I think they have a better finish now though.

+1 for the Springfield XD. I have a XD9mm and really looking at buying a XD.45 THey are extremely tough. They have been put thru some of the same testing as the glocks and performed great. Excelent pricing too. I would beware of the S&W. I haven't been very impressed with their semi-autos. They do make some great revolvers though.

The P229 looks nice... and from what I've researched, they are the best for accuracy & comfort. It's a bit out of my price range though. My cousin owns some sort of S&W .40 (metal). I've held it, but have not shot it. I'll be attending the next gun & knife show just to see & hold different types of guns. I'll pull the trigger on getting one eventually.
