I know I will lol. How safe is a 4.125 bore on an iron block? Would I run into a lot of cooling problems? And would you do the 4.1 crank again? Thats a 438 lol Not even sure thats possible

Yeah man I feel ya...I have either the same problem except that it's either a forged 408 or twin turbos on my 5.3.... I really want both but I cant afford it.

ok, let me put it this way. right now you have the money for one or the other.. right?

so lets see, you put a turbo on a 5.3(which i think is a great motor and i still run one) or you go ahead and look to the future and put in bigger cubes. which will run a helluva lot faster than a 5.3....

then later on add your boost when money shows his ugly face again. in the mean time, add some nitrous. keep it simple, keep it small. you'll be happy.

my whole point is long term...where would you rather be in a year. a turbo'd 5.3 or a built 408 with spray and a turbo on the way.

Turbo 408, problem solved, you get everything you want.

Honestly you can look at what John said eigther way. You can have the 408 now and wait on the turbo, or you can get the turbo and wait on the 408. Personally Id get the 408 now and go for the turbo later, but it has to be a firm decision, cause when you build the 408, its 2 different builds for turbo or N/A ie. low compression for decent boost, of high compression for N/A.

IMO what would be great is build the 408 for N/A, and see if your satisfied, then if you arent, swap pistons and cams and redo it for the turbo. You may be suprised at the N/A 408.

lol yea a turbo 408 would be nice but there is a problem with that decision, divorce lol. I went and looked at the turbo today. Most likely it will be a n/a 408. I am just not one to buy used stuff, seems like everytime I do I have some kind of problems

4.125 isnt possible with an iron block without sleeving it(read BIG money) Hell no to using a 4.100 stroke it causes WAAAAYYY too many clearances issues and custom piston issues. Go with the standard 408 arrangement IMO. FYI 4.040 is about as big as you can get with an iron block before problems. Its possible to get .020 more out of it but you have to get ablock without alot of core shift and there really isnt a way to tell till you get it checked out by a shop.
