Default I have a problem lol

I have decided to build a 408(originaly wanted to go turbo). The guy at the performance place where I got most of my stuff at is giving me a really really good deal on a short block. So today I go in to see if he had some info for me. He tells he has an STS with 3000 miles on it sitting in the back. He can let me have it for cheap. It has a 67mm turbo. No IC so I would need to figure something out there(Allen said I could put one together for about 500. He has a fuel system they put together. I would really like to have the 408 but damn this seems like a very good deal. I guess I could always get the turbo and build the 408 later lol(yea right). By the time I finsh the 408 it will cost me at least 3 times maybe 4 times what I can get the STS for.

I guess this is not really a bad problem. hmmm 408 or turbo. What would you do?

Depends on what you're really going to spend. You're looking at a used turbo + fabbing an intercooler + labor + upgrades to you 5.3.
Compare that to what it's going to cost for your fully built/installed 408.
Is that number really 3 to 4 times different? If so, go turbo. I can't imagine the delta is that much between the two.

My experience with a 5.3 was $4,000.oo for a Whipple + $1600.00 parts (cam etc) + labor + tuning and the damn thing still couldn't put out what a 408 would. Then, the 5.3 blew up! At that point, the 408 would've been alot cheaper, put out more power and (likely) still be running.

With my 6.0, I'm buying parts that I could swap over to a stroker someday 'cuz that's where the big power and torque is...

There's no replacement for displacement.
