Habit I'd like to BREAK!!!!!

I always thought they had different cranks. Based your comment... assuming the cranks were the same, shorter rods would lessen the compression with piston not rising as close to the heads as a 5.3L with (possibly) longer rods. The comment below does not seem to support the rod difference theory. Anyone have any more info on this??? Dealer part comparison???

Played around with a new toy yesterday. Of course, opinions are welcome. Gashes were a bit deeper than expected. Figured I'd experiment on the heads. Have another set of bruised heads, but didn't feel like ripping them out of a sealed box. May do that today.

Got a good bit closer to riding again...

All that's left is bolt the water pump on (gotta swap over stuff to extra pump since I stripped a bolt hole for t-stat), bolt on AC compressor, hoist motor in truck, reconnect everything under the hood, fill up on fluids, and turn the key. Too bad I promised wifey I'd spend the WHOLE day being the perfect family man. Where's the smilie for "putting foot in mouth"?????
