Default The county TOOK my backyard ( So Fla)

Ok this all started about 6 months ago when the county said that since my house was on a canal that belonged to Lake Worth Water District, the LWWD would need to expand their operation path another 17ft into our yard. Come to find out that when my parents bought the house, they saw that like 3/4 of our yards was technicaly owned by the county since 1982, however in 35 years they had done nothing with it. Well, one of our dumbass neighbors put up a tiki hut on the countys property and an inspector came by and told him it had to be removed about a year ago. This tough guy wasnt taking no for an answer and decided to try and sue the county(smart idea). They were going to postpone this project until 2013 however, this blowhard decides to fight the county and they decided to bump up the project date. I'll post pics later , currently there is a 80 ft boom crane across the canal ripping out my palm trees and ficus hedge and chain link fence. Thats all fine however, I have 3 dogs that can easily walk right into the canal because of no fence. Onto bigger issues, my neighbor has a mentally handicapped son who could easily wonder into the canal and possibly drown. I'll try to get pics up soon to let you guys see, word really do this story no justice. Sorry for the rant

best bet is to inquire with a real estate attorney about "Squatter's rights"... depending on the time limitations in your state you may LEGALLY own that property just by maintaining it and claiming is as your own for XX years, if so they will still expropriate the property, but they'll have to pay you for it

O.K. i was only able to find 1 pic before this all happened from about 3 months ago. Shitty pic but you get the gist of what the hedge looked like.

We used to have a ficus about 6ft high and never able to see past it and it also covered the chain link fence. It was stretched all the way across our yard and you can see whats left of it. Also, where the palm tree is, there was one next to it about 35ft high that they cut down too but the other one was on our property so they left it.
