At some point, the SS's and VortecMax's got the 14 bolt rear, not sure when that happened. I'd personally love an AWD SS, I love the syling, and it already has an LQ9. Anybody know what year the SS's went 2wd, and were they still available as AWD? How about the 14 bolt, when did that happen?

2005 was the first year of 2WD but the AWD was still optional for that year. 2006 and up are only 2WD and as far as I know ALL 2WD SSS trucks have the 14 bolt but it's apparently not bullet proof behind the LQ9 either.

AWD was not an option for '05.......it was standard for the 1st half of '05, then discontinued. RWD and a 14-bolt was standard from '05-1/2+. The 14-bolt is veeeeeery strong as long as you dump the Eaton G-80......

ya my g80 is broke currently in my 14 bolt. SSS FTW. mine weighs like 48XX right now. and nothing but wheel change and no spare tire.

rcsb are dime a dozen, SSS on a different level looks wise. get a rcsb, 6.0 swap. and put SSS cladding and bumpers on it and have everything your looking for.

I didn't read the entire thread, but I went with the Silverado SS for pretty much the same reasons the Original Poster was looking for. I wanted something that was moderately quick, yet still daily driver material in 4 season weather. I bought the SSS because the looks are better in my opinion to the regular 03+ trucks and it came with the LQ9 as its foundation. Plus its a real SS and gets noticed more often. Also, the SS badging does attract some races every once in a while. Seems like everyone wants to beat an SS even though they dont know anything about cars. I did my research and read the articles about Lingenfelters GMC Sierra Denali supercharged truck package (I think from 2002 or 2003) and for their $8-9k, the truck went 13.3. I realized I could build my own truck for much less. I picked up my radix for $3k, put in headers, exhaust, tune, and now a built trans, which was inevitable. I managed a 13.1 out of just that. I'm a cam, 2.9 pulley, and larger injectors away from a solid low to mid 12's.

Like I saw mentioned in some of the other posts on the first page though, its personal preference. RCSB is lighter, and if you can do the work yourself, you can still build a fairly inexpensive DD RCSB SS clone. One project I wish I had the funds for would be to pick up a 03+ RCSB, put the SS body kit on it, throw a forged 402 or FI 6L in it, convert it to AWD, and go run 11's. But thats alot of custom work I dont have the time or money for.

Blow her and add some spray! That will get your SSS in the 12s.

Seriously I love my SSS and it's no where near 12, 13, or even 14sec 1/4mi. It is possible with what I mentioned.

If you want a list of go fast parts for one I would suggest contacting one of the site sponsors on this board or on ls1tech. If I had to choose who to talk to I would go with Thunder Racing.
