Yeah stock.
My truck with 2 mods and first time ran 14.8 not bad and it was my first time at the track..

I have had my ss since 2003 and its been great. It looks great and I will probably never get rid of mine. As some have said they are slow for a stock performance truck but it is faster than most to start with. Before I put a 408 in I was running mid to high 13s on the stock motor with just a cam, headers, efans, and a I6 trailblazer converter. I sprayed a 150 shot and was in the low 12s. with out going to larger cubes its going to be hard to get into the 12s n/a with a lq9. Now I have a 408 with everything you can put on or in a motor and I should be in the low 12s n/a next month at the track. If you want a mid to high 12sec DD I would get a ss and depending on money. Go with a Magna charger TVS 1900 with a decent set of heads and a good cam with a converter and your in the 12s and still be reliable.

if you want 12's you need boost or n02 and trans and converter and you should break into the 12's with a 5400lb truck

If you want to be in the 12s and be reliable tvs1900 is the way to go. but if you dont mind driving something that has a large cam and a 4000 stall then go with bolt ons and cam/heads.

Since your not opposed to RCSB's I would suggest getting one of those for cheap (even a roller if necessary, there are a couple running around the classifieds) and drop in a 6L and right off the bad you'll be in the high 13's. You could get a 4wd one and get unbeatable traction from a dig and then add some boost and your looking low 12's. But you won't get the SS exclusivity.

I also think you should get a rcsb. A 5.3 with full bolt ons cam stall and gears is capable of hitting high 12's. With a cammed 6 liter in it, mid to low 12's.

The main killer is that fact that the SSS is grossly de-tuned from the factory, combined with Torque Management, it isn't that fast at all. Don't get me wrong, in stock fashion an SSS can get out of it's own way, but is no where near a hot rod. A CAI, custom tune, and a cat-back drastically improve driveability and speedyness, many break into low 14's with just these three basic mods....
