Well, the weight too. An SSS weighs in around 5300lbs whereas a RCSB (since he's considering a RC and wants low 13s) will weigh around 1000 lbs less. That's 1 whole second right there, given equal power levels. For me personally the decision doesn't come down to initial speed, but rather practicality. For me, a reg cab is impractical so the obvious choice is the SSS. Also the SSS has the upscale interior and beefier drivetrain (relatively).

If I could do it all over again id buy a rcsb.. I dont have ss but do have a ecsb..id rather build my own stuff than buy it.. you can get an older rc for 5-9k. drop in a 6.0, put a set of heads and cam and all the bolt ons and have a 11 second truck..youd still be cheaper than buying a lightning or an ss

I was in the same boat as you arein now vettejr and went the RCSB route and have it on the road as of now, soon enough I'll be making some power and 12's and 11's should hopefully be easy to attain.

the thing i love about my SS is the AWD.i havent ever been beat off the line from a dig. but i guess the stall and tranny really help with that. i can build 9 psi off the line with out breaking loose at the track i launched on a 65 shot and 9psi and it never spun. the best i ran was a 12.5 on 11 psi and a 65 shot not to bad for a 5500 brick.

i love my ss. Your gonna end up putting about the same amount of money into either truck you decide to get but the good thing about a ss is that it already looks go so you can put more money into performance. and you would already be one step ahead with the 6.0

Wow...not many people actually know anything about the SSS trucks. I ran my times on the stock 20s. These trucks are .4-.5 seconds quicker with 16" wheels. Now if I were to buy another one I would probably go with the 2WD just because I don't really need AWD (though I do like it) and there are fewer parts to break with the 2WD trucks. Also you could get a VHO truck as it has the same running gear as the 2WD SSS but without the body cladding (about 200lbs lighter) I have yet to see a RCSB 5.3 outrun an SSS mod for mod.

My '05 AWD SSS ran 13.82 with my fat *** driving and these mods...

LT headers and full exhaust (no cats)
Circle D 3200 stall
Vette servo and HD-2 shift kit
Madtunesracing.com Street tune

my openion... get a rcsb 5.3 and maybe do a 6.0 swap. u can even get a 4x4 and you can have your awd launch. it will be alot cheaper. good luck

honestly i wanted and still want a sss but money is tight and was when i bought so i decided to get a regular loaded up ext cab. I picked up a stock ext cab 07 for the less than i could get a 04-05 sss for. I then swapped in a lq4 and a kbracing frontmount and a 4l80 trans, I daily drive the truck putting more than 300miles a week on it and can drive to the track on the radials and ran a best of 12.77 so far. Its got more in it but hate to push the dd till i get a car to drive!

i hope this helps you. If you want fast then get a single cab and swap to a 6.0 and boost it! if you want a hauler get a sss and boost it but keep in mind the lq9 vs. the lower compression lq4. Its your call hope i helped , or maybe confused you!

my honest opinion is to get a rcsb 99-02 truck w/ 5.3 60e. 4x4 if you want/need traction or 2wd if you dont.

dont get one with traction control either. if you dont you still get the cable throttle body which has better throttle response.

best option IMO is get a 2wd rcsb 99-02 w/ 5.3 swap out for 6.0L do boltons and be in the range you want. then if you want more, you can add boost, nitrous, and/or engine internals.

check out the stickys in the GM engine/exhaust thread for boltons mod list then you can go further.

there are a few guys with cams in the 5.3 in the rcsb format in mid 12s
