Default Anyone here find they have a warranty block on their JGP truck?

MY dealer called and said GM put a warranty block on our truck and they were the first ones to touch it since it was new. They just fixed the popping noise in intermediate shaft on the steering column. I have a good relationship with them and they don't understand it either, but feel it's related to the truck being a Joe Gibbs conversion.

It's not a power adder optioned truck either. It just has the 5.3, badging, 20" tires and JGP wheels, and it's lowered a bit with their suspension kit.

Anyone heard of this before?

PM me with your vin# and I will see if I can tell why. I work at a dealer and can run the vin to check the warranty status on it.

I ran your VIN. The warranty block is only for any of the added Joe Gibbs parts. They wold be warrantied by JG, not General Motors. Here is a copy of a bulliten referencing it. Any of the factory GM equipment is still warrantied by GM for your 36month/36000 mile warranty.

Subject: Warranty Admin. - Warranty Coverage and Procedures for Joe Gibbs Performance (JGP) Vehicles #05-00-89-024 - (04/13/2005)

Models: 2004-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Tahoe

with RPO PCX

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important: This service bulletin is not applicable to 'GM of Canada' dealers.

Joe Gibbs Performance has developed a line of modified production vehicles (RPO PCX). Current offerings in this regard include the 2004 and 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado and Tahoe models.

These vehicles have been extensively tested for durability and reliability beyond the typical aftermarket product standards with some oversight by General Motors Engineering.

Although these vehicles may be shipped directly from the assembly plant to the upfitter, the General Motors Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty does not cover the additional content of these modified vehicles. The GM Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty DOES remain in place on the OEM portion of the vehicle. All Joe Gibbs Performance vehicles come with their own warranty covering their components. Please be aware that any dealership selling and servicing these modified vehicles is responsible for disclosing the change in warranty coverage and for proper administration of these warranties.

A warranty brochure for each Joe Gibbs Performance vehicle is included in the glove box of the vehicle upon shipment from the Joe Gibbs Performance upfitter. This warranty information should be reviewed carefully with the prospective buyer and an explanation should be given outlining the changes in warranty coverage. This warranty begins at 0 miles and should be administered using the details outlined below. Please ensure that any applicable failures are warranted through Joe Gibbs Performance.

Outlined below you will find the warranty elements for Joe Gibbs Performance vehicles:

• Powertrain Coverage (0 miles - 3 years/36,000 miles) -- Joe Gibbs Performance vehicles may include a Roots-style supercharger on the 5.3L engine and a cat-back exhaust system. Powertrain failures caused by installation of these components must be submitted to Joe Gibbs Performance.

• Brake and Suspension Coverage (0 miles - 3 years/36,000 miles) -- Joe Gibbs Performance vehicles can include changes to the wheels, tires and brake rotors as well as numerous suspension components. Although validation has taken place, this change could affect braking performance (including ABS operation) as well as ride and handling characteristics. All failures caused by installation of these modifications must be submitted to Joe Gibbs Performance.

• Interior and Exterior Trim Coverage (0 miles - 3 years/36,000 miles) -- Joe Gibbs Performance vehicles include ground effects that could change the aerodynamics of the vehicle vibration, windnoise, fuel economy, etc. Interior trim content includes items such as seat covers, instrument cluster, badges, etc. All failures caused by the installation of these modifications must be submitted to Joe Gibbs Performance.

A WINS (Warranty Information Network System) restriction has been placed on these vehicles for the applicable labor operations. This information can be viewed in GMVIS on each of the affected vehicles. Prior to authorizing GM warranty on these vehicles, the AVM (Area Service Manager) must be consulted.

Dealers should contact Joe Gibbs to ensure coverage. Submission of claims for Joe Gibbs Performance vehicle-related concerns or failures can be warranted by contacting Joe Gibbs at 1-877-547-2677. Dealers are asked to have the vehicle's VIN number and owner information available prior to making this call.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

That is very helpful. I do appreciate you putting the extra effort in providing this info. I'll pass it on to my dealer service writer. He sure seemed to be lost when he called me. I think the dealer is trying to hold him accountable and it was just the normal TSB repairs that any other truck would have.

Thanks again!
