03 evap canister 04 tank fuel senderSo I’m swapping an 04 fuel tank/sender in my 03 truck. Evap purge solenoid was deleted when I made my fuel lines with the Holley Hiram and rails. Is it pointless to run my evap canister? If I use the evap canister, what should I run the purge nipple to? I’m assuming the 5/8” air line from canister goes to the 5/8” nipple on the sender and the 1/4” nipple on canister labeled “tank” goes to the top tank nipple. Any help from those who have done the swap would be appreciated. Or should this be posted in the Fuel Forum?
Probably get more/better info from the fuel forum or search that forum for EVAP.
My thoughts, it is pointless from the standpoint that the EVAP system will not function as intended since you've removed the purge solenoid. However, you need to vent the tank one way or another. So, hook this canister back up and use it vent your tank and hopefully the canister does its job of absorbing the gas fumes or you can just run a 5/8" hose off the nipple on the sender up to a filter that's mounted higher than the fuel filler. The second method may result in increased fuel smell if you park inside.
Love this build!
I gotta ask, i'm swapping the 65 in my 03 SSS for an 80 as well. I'm using the same crossmember from Dirt Track Racer 81. He specifically points out "Will not work with deep pans". But from the pics you put up, this pan sure looks like it would work. https://www.ctpowertrain.com/transmi...uminum-hummer/
Thanks JeffT, my main concern was venting the fuel tank without fumes. I ended up having to get an 04+ fuel filler neck to fit the 04 tank. The newer version comes with a vent line that goes from the top of the tank to the filler neck. I'm going to re-install the charcoal canister, connect the air and vent line, and cap the purge nipple on the canister and see what happens. As long as I don't get fumes and the canister doesn't fill up with fuel, I'll be happy.
NipRIng, I took the measurements from ctp's website on their pan. It's very close but could possibly work. The measurement of 3.75" from the rear of the pan going forward and 2.75" down from the gasket mating surface is damn close. If it was me, I'd order it and test fit it. No joy then return it. If you go that route, let me know so I can upgrade down the road lol.
I was gonna was that pan also, but it wouldn’t work. I just don’t remember if it was due to my cross member or my cross over pipes. I have one of dirttrackracers crossmembers also, works very well.
Got a cheap $10 set of wheel center caps and SS vinyl decals for the Cosmis wheels. I prefer a flush center cap over a giant plastic button sticking out of the center.
I also got everything in the engine compartment done. It was a little nerve racking for the initial startup with a new motor, trans, turbo, entire e85 fuel system so on and so on. Atomic supplied the start up tune but engine shuts down after 30 seconds going into REP mode with a handful of codes.
