Default Should I go to 17s or stick with 16s?

Bout time for some new tires, and I'm trying to decide if I should get new wheels as well. I absolutely do not want to get anything bigger than a 17. Trying to decide if I should even do that, or just stick with 16's. I do offroad from time to time, and I have a nasty habit of curb-checking. Here's my truck now:

I found a couple wheels that I like....

Moto Metal 951

KMC XD716

American Racing Black Crush

MB Wheels Gunner 6

Soooo......what do you guys think? 16" or 17"? Which style wheel do you like?

Why not 18s? They make plenty of "meaty" tires in that size. I think 18s look perfect with our trucks.

How much heavier is an 18 than a 16 or 17?

OK just found some good info in the tire/wheel weight sticky. The stock wheels from my truck with the Firestones were 54 lbs each. A set of MB Precise 18's with Nitto NT-404's 285/50-18 is the same weight. Sounds like with 18's I'd be ok weight wise....I'd imaging that the 285/75-16's would be about the same weight as the 285/65-18's. Hmmm...Might have to do the 18's....I'll have to take some good pics and have someone photochop it for me.

Holy crap....tires for the 18's are expensive!

Looking at Discount Tire Direct, Nitto Terra Grappler AT

285/75-16 (what I have now) - $133 ea
285/70-17 (comparable size) - $175 ea
285/65-18 (comparable size - hella expensive!!) - $214 ea

Why do the tires with less rubber (larger rim size) cost more???

It's like buying granny panties for $5 ea vs a thong with 1/8 the material for $20 ea. Not that I wear panties.
