Default Rear window defroster and heated mirrors

I have a base ls model truck without the heated mirrors compass/temp rear view mirror and the non defrosting rear window. My question is are these trucka already prewires for the heated stuff like the tranny temp gauge is for and esc cluster or do you have to buy a wiring harness or what. I know I would have to get a ac cluster with the button for the heated accessories. Does rear view mirror already have wiring run up to the top of the windshield and does it have temp sensor already on the truck.

Thanks Cody

Can't speak about the mirror, but there is wiring in place for the other. The mirrors and rear defrost are on the same circuit. I got a new HVAC control and popped in a relay (into the underhood fuse unit) and had my mirrors working in no time. I haven't checked on the the wiring for the rear window itself - I had not intended on doing that until I was sure I was gonna be buying the rear window w/defogger grid.

Anyone that has the rear view mirror with the compass and temp can you look at the wire that comes out of it. I was feeling around under the headliner and found a wiring harness plug that had I beleive 4 or 5 wires in the plug that had 6 places I beleive. Is this the kind of plug that you have? ill try and get some pics. What kind of relay is it that i have to pop in. On the temp where is the sensor at I have heard it is behind one of the headlights and if so where does it plug into at?

Thanks, Cody

Sorry about the delay.

Heres the part numbers Sensor: 15047946
Connector: 12101856
Cover to cover wires from mirror to headliner: 15195146

You will have to get 2 male metric 150 connectors, they are pretty common most of the GM trucks use 150 or 180 connectors.

The wiring from the mirror goes down into the engine compartment, where it come near the under hood fuse box. At the side closest to the front of the truck you will see a connector down at the bottom, it is part of the air bag sensor, it easy to pick out because it has a little white saftey strap that keeps the 2 ends of the connectors together. It has 4 wires come in on the female connector and 2 wire coming out at the male end. I believe the mirror wiring is a black wire and a green wire, the other wires are for the air bag sensor.

So with the connector you ordered, you have to add about a 18" of wire to it and attach the 2 male 150 Connectors to the other end. (unhook battery first to kill air bag and wait a few minutes becasue the air bag can store electricity for a few minutes) then pull apart the harness, on the male end remove the 2 little moisture plug from the connector and slip the to 150 connectors in the back into the matching holes as the wires on the female side of the connector. and plug it all back together and thats it, hook the battery back up.

When you doing this remove the entire cover for the under hood fuse box, alot easy to do than trying to wedge it out of the way.

If you have a GM service manual it pretty easy to do, becasue it gives some really good pictures and diagrams. I tried to explain it as best I as I could. If your not to mechanically inclined maybe get someone to do it for you. It took me 15 minutes to do so its not too hard
