mine sound pretty good. I only have a 100W amp pushing them with an equalizer/booster helping out. I dont go for Bass as much as just it being loud. I like to play rock.

Why do you wanna port the box?

Ported boxes are always bigger than sealed so they take up more room. They will generally be louder at upper frequencies (since you wont be able to make a big enough box to go real low) but once you hit the ported freq. of the box you will lose EVERYTHING below that port freq. and you'll end up with lots of port noise which can be quite bad if the enclosure is located RIGHT behind you.

If you have an amp that has a subsonic filter like the PPIs or JL Audios then you can minimize this noise and waste of power below the port freq. so it's not as noticable and you'll still get the DB gain of a ported box but you will also make the bass a lil more sloppy and not as tight and accurate as a sealed box. Also, ported boxes handle less power than sealed.

So in all, it depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. I prefer sealed boxes with lots of power. I listen to just about everything but not much RAP/R&B. If i was just into Rap type stuff with ghetto bass ported would work fine.

heheh thats what im looking for i only listen to Rap and R&B hurr...........for the ladies. the good thing is that these subs can be felt from quite a distance when u get the right music on.......if u put some rap on with some getto Bass then ur clothes start to shake.......and if u pass by the truck u really feel the bass........BUT when u get inside the subs make to much noise u can hear that something is hitting the box like a knock...if u close the door u cant hear it no more????WTF is wrong with my box...is like i said there is no room for the Magnet to breath....i think that might be it!!

I am assuming your subs have vented backplates? Lil holes on the bottom of the magnet structure? If so then yes you need to have at least 1" of clearance behind the sub for them to properly evacuate heat from the voicecoil. Shouldn't cause them to make noise though, just eventually overheat and burn up

As for the knock noise, it could very well be you are just overdriving them. Sending a clipped signal (your gains are not properly set or level matched) will cause all sorts of ugly noises to come out of a speaker as will just playing them harder than they are capable of.

I am not sure what you mean by it makes noise then you close the door and it stops making the noise. Is this in a car or truck? With the door closed are the windows also up? If so you could just be lacking in proper suspension for the sub and when you have to doors open or windows down there is not enough suspension for the sub and it just pushes too far in and out till it starts popping. With the doors close/windows up it might create enough suspension to now properly control the sub? Just a guess without actually seeing your setup and the car.
