Because it is not that black textured plastic crap. The smooth ones are meant to be painted and will hold paint better and require almost no prep.
For only $65.00, it was worth getting the smooth one for me...IMO!

Hey Thriller,
I painted my factory one the first time.It lasted about 3 years.So After it being already painted before it started cracking so I just went ahead and bought the LT Tahoe one that was already slick just to make it easier.

I just realized that my stock one is smooth on my 03. Are the 99-02 ones different?
