The way I did it didn't require the removal of the board but I did try to remove It orginally and the one bank of connectors appear to be holding it.
What's was your plan if you had it

how did you do it? I just put some stock bulbs on it for now but i just kinda broke the bulb off carefully so that the prongs still stuck out a bit and soldered the new bulb to them.

That method will work. That's how I soldered the leads of the LEDs. Get decent solder on them they'll hold. Are you leaving them stock or gonna do LEDs later?

I was thinking of doing leds but i have seen some start to go out and flicker in a year or 2. I put some into my gf's tahoe 2 years ago and just a few weeks ago 2 went out and are flickering now. Luckily those are just the twistlock leds.

Gotchya. I run with my headlights on all the time so my interior lights are on all the time. I guess I'll wait and see how long they last. I always assumed LEDs would last longer than the incandescent bulbs.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. I have an extra 4x4 switch so if you mess yours up trying to separate it I can hook you up.

Yeah in theory the led's would last longer than the regular bulbs but that is not the case from my experience.

Steering wheel controls are not that hard at this point. . . . The hardest part is pointing them all to match, meaning no hot spots, not too hot, and not too bright

Remember the less heat to seat them, the longer the bulb will last

Just read thru this thread.. Picked up an 06 and the only lights that do work are in the stock 6 disk changer..

Dash lights are half out.. headlight lights out, all AC control lights out, and all steering wheel control lights out too..

Looks like i got alot of time with an iron in my future...
