Default Interior Un-install HELP!

Well ive taken apart the dash bezel, ash tray, fold down cupholder, the air vents, side peices that hide some wires, but i have not been able to figure out how to take out the Main Dashboard, and the glovebox. Theres about 6 screws on the glovebox but theres these 2 lil rivet type screws that just have holes on them, anybody know how to get this out? Everything else has been sanded down/ primered, ready for paint, i just wanted to do everything at once. If anybody can help my email is Bobby62586@yahoo.com or just post up- i wanna get this done as soon as possible. Thanx

The glovebox is part of the whole lower piece that extends from the passenger side door to the driver's side of the tranny hump. I took that whole thing out to get the glovebox out when I was wiring up my stereo and radar.

Ive unscrewed the 2 screws on each side near the little rount vents, and about all the little ones you can see under the bezel. but still wont budge? Thanx for the glovebox help though- this is for a 00' silverado just to be sure.

Glovebox should be the same as on my 01. I've never taken the main dash off though, so I can't be much help there.

The main dash is held in by a series of screws and clips.

There are screws behind the dash bezel, inside the air vents and on each side of it, i'd say around 10 or so total. After you remove those it'll still feel pretty solid in there as the clips are still holding it in. The clips are at the front of the windshield and over the glovebox. I had to use a little force to get mine out but it'll come out with patience.

As for reinstalling it, I haven't gotten around to it, still working on painting mine

Thunder550 hit the nail on the head with the lower glovebox part. If you have the fold out cupholder like I do you'll have to remove that first, then remove a series of 7 mm nuts and give it a quick tug as it has a few clips too.

Hope this helps.

oh yeah, i forgot about that handle above the airbag. With the A/C vents out reach into there and press two clips on each side of it in and it'll just pull straight out.

You guys kick ***. As far as the glovebox is there any spring type deal i should be worried about? a friend said there might be. I already have everything else off except for the bottom thats attached with the glovebox and the main dash. I can still drive it around though as long as i have the speedo hooked up right? I just talked to a friend thats been taking bodyshop in highschool for 2 years and said no problem to painting my dash for free, as long as i buy him pizza and beer lol. What do you guys recomend for paint and i hear its all in the clearcoat, what about that? Its gonna be done pro with a airgun and everything so what is the best out there, i know dupont but as far as clear goes im clueless. thanx

The only spring I ran into anywhere was the one that holds the flap over the cigarette lighter plugs.

K guys thanx for the help, i got everything from the bottom off, i broke some parts off and they came apart but i think i can put them back together or just get a new peice from GM. It was the little thing that holds on the 194 bulb in the glovebox, had a hell of a time de-connecting it. My lil bro (16yrs old) helped me wrestle with the freaking connection but we got it off. All thats left is the upper main dash part. I know the "o-****" bar is leathery feeling, can i sand that down or how would i go about painting that? You guys have been a awesome help, thanx again.

Wow, free dash painting. Is he going to sand/smooth it for you too? I don't think i'd want to smooth out another dash even if I was paid. it is a total nightmare!

As for paint, I used Dupont Chromabase on mine with great results. I also use DuPont clearcoat and have had great results. If you wetsand/buff it after paint it'll look even better.

My best advice is when you think you have all the texture off, keep going as it isn't quite done yet...it is a long process.
